Big Announcements!

I usually don't have so much to announce, and it's not that I haven't posted for awhile (which is true as well), but that everything seems to happen in the same day! All good, though.

First, I'll be signing at 2 stores this weekend:

December 18, 2009
- Orem Seagull Book 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., Friday. I’ll be signing “Alma” and “All is Bright” (Christmas Story Compilation) during Friday Lunch Hour: 111 South State Street, Orem, Utah

December 19, 2009 - Spanish Fork Seagull Book 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Saturday. I’ll be signing “Alma” and “All is Bright” (Christmas Story Compilation) with Annette Lyon and Julie Wright! 1052 South Main, Spanish Fork, Utah

Second, my Alma the Younger book was accepted for publication! Release date will be Summer 2010 (instead of Fall 2010). So you won't have to be in suspense for too much longer. I'm really excited about this, but then I realize that I need to decide which book to write next since I usually have a bigger gap between books. I'm thinking of Ammon, but not set in stone. Any suggestions?

Third, my non-fiction book, Women of the Book of Mormon is slated for an April release! So this means that next week I'll be in final edits (yes, during Christmas). My editor was worried that it would make things too busy, but really, I see it as a Christmas present to myself. This book, although not long in length, took so much research, and has been a long time coming. So I'm really grateful that it will be out in April. Just in time for Mother's Day! And I can finally share some of the fascinating insights I've learned.

Awesome news! I can't wait to read both of these books. Congrats.

As to what to write next, hmmm. That's a tough one. Ammon's good; What about the Jaredites? Or the people of Zarahemla. Whatever you choose you'll do awesome.

Wow, wow, wow!! That's really fantastic! Congratulations. I want that Christmas book still, but I'm stuck sick in Tooele and don't dare drive all the way out there in my condition. Happy signings!

So excited for you! 2010 will be a great year for you. I like the story of Ammon, or even Captain Moroni.

Several years ago, in a church meeting, a member of my bishopric asked if we had a Book of Mormon hero. At the time, I did not. He challenged us all to find one for ourselves.

A year or so later, I was on a Relief Society visit, and the message that was shared was about Ammon. The RS President didn't focus on the story of him smiting the arms off of the men in the field, as I had always done.

Instead, she discussed the way that Ammon served the king. Even after he had fulfilled the duty of protecting the flocks, and all the other servants stopped their duties to report to the king, Ammon still went about the duties given him by the king.

That level of dedication, in serving another, was what got Ammon in the door, so to speak, and allowed him to convert not only the king, but many, many more.

That evening, I picked my Book of Mormon Hero. It was, and still is, Ammon.

I was HOPING you would choose him for your next book. Please Please!!! :)

Hi Heather,

Whether next or somewhere down the literary trail, you should consider a story for Samual the Lamanite. A wonderful person with so many (I believe) progressions in his life. He is one of my favorites, but truthfully, you can choose nearly anyone from the B of M and not go wrong.

Charlie, I think Samuel the Lamanite is a fascinating person as well!

Kim, I agree about Ammon--it's amazing that he left his entire inheritance and gave up being the king of Zarahemla for missionary work. And his attitude wasn't "I'm going to convert these people or else . . ." it was "I'm going to serve in whatever capacity needed, even if means taking care of horses or flocks."

In my Women of the Book of Mormon manuscript, I have a chapter on the daugther of Jared, so I've done a little research on the Jaredites. That would certainly be a colorful era to write about. Lots of drama :-)
