Book GIVEAWAY!

In 9 weeks my newest book, ABINADI, will hit the shelves.

So in preparation for promoting my next Book of Mormon series, I thought I'd give away ONE book a week of my latest book--LAND OF INHERITANCE. This is volume four of my OUT OF JERUSALEM series. So I'll be giving away 9 books over the next 9 weeks. Make sense?

So each week on Sunday/Monday, I'll post a blog with a question. Then on the Friday of that week, I'll pick a winner. Winners will either be randomly drawn from those who commented or if one of the comments particularly draw me in, I'll choose that one (hey, it's my blog, so I can bend rules :)

This ONLY applies to LAND OF INHERITANCE. If you've already read it, I'm willing to sign it to someone who you'd like to give a gift.

When I choose your name, be sure to email me your address at:

This week's question is: What was the strangest job you EVER had?

I think I've had my share of strange jobs. One of them was working at a college art department as a model. To get the job in the first place, I had to "model" in a swimsuit. The job paid better than some of the other lowly jobs I had previously--like being an elevator operator at basketball games or usher at football games. The art dept asked me to wear a nude-colored swimsuit for the art classes. I remember sitting for a sculpture class for three hours. I had to take a break every 30 minutes so that I didn't pass out. Really!

All of my jobs have been pretty tame. ..But the most unusual is one I'm doing now--making perfume. Lots of fun.

Can Canadians win too? Please oh please?

My strangest job was as a flyer delivery girl. It wasn't the job that was strange though so much as the people I delivered to. The odd congolmeration of things I'd have to navigate through to get to the doorstep. The people who would peek out their windows at me and snap the blinds shut when they saw me looking. The cat that would attack my shoelaces every time. The fellow who sometimes opened the door as I was dropping the papers into his mailbox, clad only (of course) in his underwear.

I was thirteen years old at the time and I've been fascinated by people ever since.

Karlene, your job making perfume sounds like fun! And Kimberly, of course Canadians can win :) There's probably a book in your job as a delivery girl! I can only imagine!

Heather--you are so brave to do that job!
My strangest job would have to be when I worked with a group of mentally ill patients right out of college--these are persistents, meaning they're not going to likely ever get better. Ever watch the movie The Dream Team? Well I had to drive a huge bus of mental patients to a baseball game and it was quite the experience! They were all trying to tell me how to drive and how to get there.

One summer when I was a teenager I worked at Show Bizz pizza and had to wear the Billy Bob costume whenever some kid was having a birthday party. Billy Bob, as I remember it, was some sort of giant rodent, but I've forgotten (repressed what) what exactly he was: a woodchuck? a gopher?

All I remember was that it was this huge furry thing with buck teeth and suspenders, and I couldn't see very well out of the dark screen in his mouth.

Most kids were either terrified of Billy Bob or wanted to pull his tail and trip him--something that was easy to do since I couldn't see very well.

Yeah, when I look back at it, it makes me realize that being a writer isn't such a bad job after all.

Wow, Rachelle, what an amazing job. I'll bet it was a real eye-opener. I've always admired people who work with the handicapped or mentally ill.

Janette--now that is too funny! I wouldn't expect anything less wacky from you :)

Gosh, I've never posed as a nude or worn a rat costume--I'm so boring.
